Which iPhone came out last? Apple announced the prices of the new iPhones and their release date in Russia. The iPhone XR is a bestseller, but there's something better now

It will present an updated design of the iPhone, which will have a metal frame around the edges, like the cult gadget iPhone 4, reports citing analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his accurate forecasts regarding the American company.

Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 12, whose exact name is still unknown, will undergo “significant changes” in terms of its appearance. These changes will include a "more complex segmented design" using sapphire crystal to help preserve the design. In addition, Apple will use "new metal casting technologies."

“We predict that the design of the 2020 iPhone will change significantly... The metal frame and the front and rear 2.5D glass will remain in place, but the surface of the metal frame will be similar to the design used in the iPhone 4,” the analyst said. report.

Ming-Chi Kuo is confident that the updated iPhone will look completely different and feel in the hand, but new production technologies will require significant costs - the analyst believes that the company's costs for a metal frame and glass case will increase by 50-60% and 40 -50% accordingly.

At the same time, it is possible that the price of the device for the consumer will also increase.

The iPhone 4 is largely considered iconic, as its design, created by the legendary iPhone, was subsequently adopted by many other smartphone manufacturers - it features a metal frame with rounded edges that is surrounded by reinforced glass on both sides. In addition, the iPhone 4, along with the “five”, counts one of the most beautiful iPhones in Apple history.

The release of this gadget took place in 2010, and since then the design of the iPhone has undergone a number of significant changes. In particular, a triple camera appeared in the iPhone 11 line on a convex square platform located in the left corner of the body, which caused a huge amount of criticism.

Many users said that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs would never have allowed such “ugliness,” and the departure of the chief designer in the summer of 2019 had a negative impact on the company’s products.

Sales of iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max started in Russia on September 20. It is noted that every year interest in new iPhones in Moscow is falling - just look at the queue in front of the official store on Tverskaya, which is getting smaller and smaller. If last year the number of those who were ready to stand in the cold for two days to become the first owner of a fashionable gadget was about a hundred, then in 2019 only a couple of dozen people came.

The new design, reminiscent of a gadget created “back in the Jobs era,” should be the main key to the sales success of the iPhone 12, the report says. Ming-Chi Kuo believes that in 2020 Apple will be able to increase shipments of its smartphones to 85 million units from 75 million units in 2019.

Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that all three iPhone models that will be released next year will receive 5G support. Initially, the analyst claimed that only two iPhones of the 2020 model would have fifth-generation communications, and the third, budget option, would be content with 4G. However, given the recent acquisition of the modem business from Apple, Apple will have additional resources to equip all its future gadgets with 5G, the expert believes.

In addition, adding fifth-generation communications to all iPhones will help Apple compete more successfully with cheaper Android smartphones that will also receive 5G support.

It is also assumed that modem chips from 2020 will be installed in iPhones, since Apple will not have time to set up production of its own chips. According to rumors, Apple's own chips will not be ready until 2021.

Ming-Chi Kuo also predicted the appearance of new sizes for the 2020 line. He announced that in a year the size of the flagship will not be 5.8 inches, but 5.4 inches. Thus, the iPhone from the new line will be smaller compared to its predecessors - the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro have a 5.8-inch screen. At the same time, the “big brother” of the flagship will become even larger relative to the iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max - 6.7 inches instead of 6.5 inches.

In addition, a third 6.1-inch model is expected, which will be the successor to the iPhone XR and iPhone 11.

Honest and detailed review of iPhone 11 Pro.

iPhone 11 Pro is the best smartphone on the planet right now. I came to this conclusion after spending two weeks with the new product. I studied it closely, tested it in various conditions, and, of course, paid special attention to the camera. However, the iPhone 11 Pro does have its downsides. One of them basically kills the desire to buy a smartphone. I told you everything in a detailed and honest review of the iPhone 11 Pro.

Where to buy iPhone 11 Pro at the best price

Quite unexpectedly, there are already promotions for purchasing the iPhone 11 Pro!

At Beeline, purchasing an iPhone 11 Pro is available on an interest-free installment plan. You can also get an additional discount when purchasing a smartphone through the trade-in program.

5. The buttons on the iPhone 11 Pro have moved a little lower. All at once, taking the SIM card slot for company. Only some Apple fanatic will say that this has improved convenience. In sober practice, there is no difference with the iPhone XS/X.

6. New case color. The iPhone 11 Pro came out in a new dark green color, in which the smartphone is posing in the photos in the review.

7. A secret change that few people noticed. 11 Pro buttons have a different click sound. The clicking became more pronounced and clear.

8. Dimensions and weight. iPhone 11 Pro is thicker and heavier compared to iPhone XS:

  • iPhone XS: 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm, 177 g.
  • iPhone 11 Pro: 144 x 71.4 x 8.1 mm, 188 g.

With “Maks” the same picture:

  • iPhone XS Max: 157.5 x 77.4 x 7.7 mm, 208 g.
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: 158 x 77.8 x 8.1 mm, 226 g.

The difference in size is almost not felt. The thickness is already more noticeable. You can directly feel these 0.4 mm with your hand, but only if you have previously used the iPhone XS without a case. I asked my friends for their opinion on the thickness of the new iPhone. They say that " slightly thick" Nothing particularly negative.

Weight is a completely different story. The iPhone 11 Pro gained 11 grams compared to the iPhone XS. And the 11 Pro Max actually felt like it was “in the village with grandma.” Plus a whopping 18 grams.

These are the heaviest iPhones in history. And their weightiness is obvious. If you switch to 11 Pro from XS, the weight gain seems normal. But when you first pick up the 11 Pro after some “seven” with its 138 grams, at first you feel uneasy. Of course, you can get used to it. There's nothing complicated about it.

I won’t say that heavy weight is a minus of the new iPhones. This is the trend. Every year, smartphones acquire more and more modules and boards, which makes it difficult to become lighter.

And this is assuming that Apple is trying to make iPhones as light as possible. Just look at the new iPhone 11 Pro motherboard.

And if it's short?! The triple camera and dark green color are what clearly sets the iPhone 11 Pro apart from other iPhones. Is this not enough? Absolutely not! The camera really draws attention to itself. I caught people's gazes dozens of times when I took out my smartphone to take a photo. Of course, they weren't looking at me. The unusual triple camera instantly attracts the eye, especially those in the know.

Frosted glass. Pleasant to the fingers and eyes

The main change in terms of design of the iPhone 11 Pro is rear frosted glass. First of all, it looks different. The glass reflects less and does not attract fingerprints. It always looks neat, there is no need to endlessly wipe it.

But the biggest difference is in the tactile sensations from the glass. If you stroke the case with your finger, it glides directly over the matte surface of the case. Does not get stuck, as happens with glossy glass. The paradox is that the iPhone 11 Pro with a matte body fits more confidently in the hand and does not slip out.

I really liked the frosted glass. When you hold a smartphone in your hand, you feel its novelty. A year ago, when I first touched the iPhone XS after the iPhone X, there was nothing like this. The update in terms of design was as boring as possible.

The iPhone 11 Pro has the same design (remember the cycles). But due to the frosted glass there is a feeling of newness. For me, this is a very important indicator, especially for those who plan to switch to a smartphone from the iPhone 8/8 Plus and other newer models with glass cases.

And if it's short?! Frosted glass - top! It looks cool and doesn't collect fingerprints; it slips less in your hand.

New dark green color. Discreet, stylish, in the spirit of Apple

iPhone 11 Pro is available in four colors: classic space gray and silver, slightly tuned gold and a completely new dark green, also known as Midnight Green. As soon as I saw the colors, I immediately knew - I’ll take green!

Apple created an amazing color, one might say premium. It is not striking, but looks stylish and modern. Not too bright, but not dull and faded either. The designers found a middle ground. If the green color were a little brighter, it would already be a bit childish. But there is nothing like that; after all, this is a Pro iPhone.

By the way, buying an iPhone 11 Pro in green turned out to be a real problem. I never expected a shortage of such expensive iPhones, so I was in no hurry to be one of the first to buy. And in vain.

A couple of days later I went to buy a dark green iPhone 11 Pro with 64 GB of memory, but it ran out. In one store, a second, a third. I visited about ten stores in the center of Moscow. And when patience was running out, the store had one, last, iPhone 11 Pro with the required memory and color.

And if it's short?! Conversations about design are always subjective. But I really liked the dark green color of the new iPhone. It looks fresh and Apple-like.

Equipment. Finally, normal charging!

Friends, it's done. In 2019, when it became possible to purchase flagship smartphones at the same price, Apple included a normal charger in the iPhone box.

The 5W adapter is a thing of the past. It was replaced by a modern (almost) charger with a power of 18 W! I was honestly happy when I unpacked my smartphone and saw this adapter. A smile appeared on his face. After all, here it is, a change of generations!

Moreover, the adapter itself is far from new. Apple has been selling it in its online store for several years, for quite decent money, I must say.

So, if you buy an iPhone 11 Pro with your last cash, you won’t have to spend until payday to purchase a normal charging adapter. You will be able to charge your smartphone quickly out of the box.

Oh yeah, the USB-C to Lightning cable needed for this charging is included. Let me clarify just in case, because we are talking about Apple. This one could have sent for the cable to a nearby store.

And if it's short?!"Fast" charging "out of the box". Better late than never.

Display. Brighter and more contrasty - and this is noticeable without a microscope

Apple loves to release a new iPhone with a description like “the screen is juicier, brighter and cooler!” After the purchase, you look at the smartphone screen and don’t understand where the coolest thing is?

In the case of the iPhone 11 Pro, it's a different story. Let's start with the numbers.

The device is equipped with a Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2436x1125 pixels (458 ppi). Screen contrast is 2 000 000:1 , which is twice as much as the iPhone XS.

Display brightness in normal operation - 800 cd/m². If you watch content in HDR format, it increases to record levels 1200 cd/m². The iPhone XS has a more modest screen brightness in any mode - 625 cd/m².

Brightness and contrast are greater, but is this noticeable when using a smartphone in everyday life? Even before buying an iPhone, the thought crept in that there might not be a difference. But it turned out that there was room for improvement.

Saw huge difference between the screens of the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone XS in comparison, taking both smartphones in hand. First I tested it at home, under artificial light. On the main screen with the splash screen and icons, everything seemed the same.

But as soon as we launched Safari and opened our site there, the difference literally caught our eye. The iPhone 11 Pro screen is 20% brighter! Against its background, the iPhone XS display appeared dull. But just a year ago one could only admire him.

The video from YouTube finished me off. Due to increased brightness and contrast, colors in videos began to look more saturated.

When I went outside, the effect of increased brightness was confirmed. It's more comfortable to view content on the iPhone 11 Pro screen, even if the direct rays of the sun fall on it. I won’t say that the iPhone XS display suddenly “turned into a pumpkin.” No, he's cool. But the updated iPhone 11 Pro display is cooler.

And if it's short?! The iPhone 11 Pro's display is actually the best among iPhones. Double the contrast and increased brightness make all the difference. It’s comfortable to watch any type of content outside on a sunny day; YouTube videos become juicier.

And the screen turns on very quickly

Whether it's because of the A13 processor or just some optimization, the iPhone 11 Pro's display responds instantly to touches or pressing the side power button. Compared with the iPhone XS, the difference is visible to the naked eye. The 11 Pro is a few fractions of a second faster.

It would seem like a small thing. But the screen “wakes up” faster, and unlocking using Face ID occurs faster, which, in turn, has also become faster.

The most valuable resource is time. And it is precisely this that all these improvements save. Alas, it is unlikely that anyone will calculate how many minutes or hours these changes will save in the iPhone 11 Pro compared to the iPhone XS, for example, over a year. I'm sure it'll be like this for a few hours.

Speed of work. So fast it's boring

iPhone 11 Pro features the latest A13 Bionic processor.

Let's look at the numbers right away, for fans:

1. Technical process 7nm N7 Pro(using extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV)).
2. 6 cores. 2 productive - 2.65 GHz, 4 energy efficient - frequency unknown.
3. 40% faster than A12.
4. 4 graphics cores. 20% faster than A12.
5. 8.5 billion transistors. 23% more than A12.
6. Machine learning system Neural Engine 3rd generation. 20% faster and consumes 15% less energy.

In general, the chip " faster, higher, stronger" But is there any difference in speed with the iPhone XS?

Honestly, I tried to discern the differences when performing ordinary tasks. There are none, and that's it! Any movement around the interface, launching VK, YouTube, Instagram, Safari, any other ordinary applications - all this happens at the same speed.

And this is not a problem with the iPhone 11 Pro. It’s just that Apple has hit the ceiling in terms of “live” performance. Some Instagram launches in a split second. Well, how much faster?

However, the iPhone 11 Pro is still faster. I noticed this in games. All sorts of heavy games load faster. In some cases, for 5-6 seconds, in most cases - for 1-2 seconds.

I agree not impressive. But there are several compelling reasons for the presence of a new processor in the iPhone 11 Pro. You can't argue with them.

1. Energy efficiency. It is precisely because the chip “eats” less that the smartphone lasts significantly longer. We’ll talk about autonomy separately, it’s very interesting.

2. Unique Deep Fusion shooting mode. The A13 processor and third-generation Neural Engine make this innovative mode a reality. Many photos with its use will be below. You will be surprised.

3. Night mode. And it also became real on the iPhone thanks to the new processor. There’s a complete “head off” there.

It would be possible to make such modes on older processors? An extremely interesting question, you will agree. Apple itself says that no, it’s not possible, only on new iPhones, please buy! Third-party developers who could lift the veil of secrecy remain silent. A real mystery, the solution to which we are unlikely to find out in the coming years.

In synthetic testing, the iPhone 11 Pro has no equal. Check out the difference.

Geekbench 4

  • iPhone 11 Pro - 5472/13095 points in single-core and multi-core modes.
  • iPhone XS - 4786/11052 points.

Geekbench 5

  • iPhone 11 Pro - 1336/3523 points in single-core and multi-core modes.
  • iPhone XS - 1111/2322 points.

Metal (graphics benchmark)

  • iPhone 11 Pro - 29025 points.
  • iPhone XS - 20968 points.

iPhone 11 Pro is the fastest smartphone in the world. He took this title from the iPhone XS. And, most likely, it will hold on until the release of the iPhone 12. This happens with new iPhones every year.

And if it's short?! The speed of the iPhone 11 Pro is the highest. But this is not very impressive, since we have hit a performance ceiling. Despite this, the A13 Bionic chip is an innovation. Thanks to him, smartphones now have shooting modes that will make your hair stand on end. You will see this again. And, of course, battery life. The chip is very energy efficient, which is why the iPhone 11 Pro lasts longer.

There is no more memory. And it is necessary?

The amount of RAM and internal memory in the iPhone 11 Pro has not changed compared to the iPhone XS. RAM capacity - 4 GB, ROM - 64, 256 or 512 GB. The same applies to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

I believe, that there's no problem with that. There was no more memory, but was there any serious need for it? Release an iPhone with a terabyte of memory? For whom?

More RAM? Applications and even heavy games are stored in the RAM of the iPhone 11 Pro running for almost a whole day. 8, 10, 12 GB of RAM is not for the iPhone. At least for now. There is absolutely no need for them. Let Chinese manufacturers indulge in gigabytes, they are more needed there.

The only adequate complaint I've heard is the basic amount of memory. Many say that 64 GB in 2019 on a smartphone is a joke. Personally, I don't agree. These 64 GB are enough for your eyes.

Here is an example from life. During the first days of testing, I took a couple of thousand photos and shot several dozen videos with 4K resolution. The materials took up about 15 GB of memory, which I later freed in 10 minutes by sending photos and videos to the computer.

And if it's short?! There is no more memory and there is no need for it. Everything is fine with memory.

Face ID. There are major improvements, but not ideal

The speed of Face ID has been increased by 30%, and the scanner has learned to detect the owner’s face from a greater angle. That's what Apple says.

What's in reality? Yes, Face ID is faster on the iPhone 11 Pro. It was not possible to measure 30% or only 20%. This is hardly possible without the use of special equipment and a small team of scientists. But the acceleration is there, and can be seen when comparing the 11 Pro and XS side by side.

The updated Face ID feature actually recognizes faces from more angles. Slightly move the iPhone to the left, right, or even up/down, the scanner seems to “reach out” and successfully identify you.

But the response range of Face ID remains the same. At arm's length, both the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone XS do not find their faces. In other words, about the range - this is a marketing ploy.

I have never had any complaints about the stability of Face ID. Moreover, I think ( and I'm trying to prove to everyone) that Face ID is many times better than the outdated Touch ID and all fingerprint scanners in principle. Therefore, I did not notice any sharp increase in the stability of Face ID in the iPhone 11 Pro.

An improved scanner may still not find my face “right in front of my face.” But only the first time. Repeated scan request - boom, the blocking is lifted. This happened in the iPhone X, in the iPhone XS and remains in the iPhone 11 Pro.

And if it's short?! Face ID in the iPhone 11 Pro detects the face from more specific angles. This is a nice bonus. But there is no “wow” effect from the updated scanner.

Battery life. Here it’s banal RESPECT

Everything in the world is cyclical. 7-8 years ago we laughed at users of Android smartphones who did not leave the sockets. 4-5 years ago, on the contrary, everyone laughed at iPhone users and their batteries up to 2000 mAh. Now iPhone fans are back on the horse.

iPhone 11 Pro is a real long-liver. It is equipped with a battery capacity 3046 mAh, which allows the smartphone to work up to 24 hours (!) in conversation mode when using a headset. This is official information from Apple.

I didn’t talk on the phone for a day, but I actively used my smartphone. Even in the first days, when I was constantly shooting, testing new modes, simply testing various applications and looking for unusual settings, the iPhone 11 Pro did not completely discharge. Only at the end of the first day the charge remained at 15%. In subsequent days from 30% and above.

In recent days, when I already use the smartphone in everyday mode, by the evening sometimes more than 50% of the charge remains.

And if it's short?! Battery life is super! Only gamers who for some reason play away from a power outlet will be able to discharge a smartphone in a day.

Sound. Now it's spacious and easy to hear

The stereo speakers in the iPhone 11 Pro have been improved. There are two changes you should be aware of. First, the speakers received updated sound with simulated surround sound. 3D sound can also be heard when listening to music. Moreover, for this it is not necessary to download songs in any special format.

The surround sound of iPhone 11 Pro's speakers features increased dynamic range and more noticeable transitions between tones. You can clearly understand what the difference is by directly comparing the sound with the iPhone XS. The sound of the latter is downright “flat”. Older iPhone models, respectively, do the same.

Not everyone noticed the second change. When you listen to music on the iPhone XS, the high frequencies come only from the top of the smartphone. No other way. The iPhone 11 Pro has better treble balance. They come out both from the top and bottom of the smartphone.

And if it's short?! The sound is more spacious and high frequencies are balanced between the stereo speakers. And all this is easy to hear. You don't need to be a music lover for this.

See our. Many examples of photos and videos.

Go, the most interesting part! The new iPhone 11 Pro is equipped with a three-camera system:

  • 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle with a viewing angle of 120° (ƒ/2.4 aperture),
  • 12-megapixel wide-angle (ƒ/1.8 aperture),
  • 12-megapixel telephoto camera (ƒ/2.0 aperture) with optical image stabilization.

Compared to its predecessors, the smartphone now has an ultra-wide-angle camera. Televik received a new lens with an immediately enlarged by 40% aperture and support for optical image stabilization. What does it mean? And what the iPhone 11 Pro can shoot:

  • with a wide angle
  • with ultra wide angle,
  • ordinary photos with greatly improved quality.

We add to this new unique shooting modes. Night mode, which allows you to release the shutter in complete darkness and get an adequate shot; and mode Deep Fusion, which improves photographs under artificial light using a completely unique technique.

Let's see how the iPhone 11 Pro can shoot. All pictures are clickable - click and see the originals.

Photo on iPhone 11 Pro. Daytime shooting

We start with pictures in excellent daylight. Above is an example of a shot taken with a telephoto lens. The camera did a wonderful job with such a complex shot. Pay attention to the detail... anywhere! Tree foliage, domes, background. All objects have excellent detail. I draw a conclusion looking ahead. In excellent natural light (on a sunny day outside), the iPhone 11 Pro will produce photos with excellent quality. The best among iPhones.

The same shot with a wide-angle lens. The frame is noticeably expanded. In addition to the temple, it included the road, nearby houses and other objects. What about quality? There are no complaints about the detailing of the temple and relatively nearby objects. But in the corners of the image, detail has dropped noticeably. But, of course, to do this you need to zoom in on the photo on a computer. It’s just that, in the general plan, you won’t notice the drop in detail.

Bam! These are the photos the iPhone 11 Pro takes using its ultra-wide-angle lens. And no, I did not run 15 meters away from the subject. I stood still and simply switched modes. Everything was included in the frame. If you look at the photo in normal mode, it looks cool. If you specifically bring it closer, then defects are visible, without which not a single ultra-wide photo is complete. Buildings, lanterns and people at the edges of the frame glanced sideways, relatively insignificant.

One more example.

I said about detailing, now I want to pay attention to color rendition. Apple holds its own. The colors in all the pictures are real.. There is no artificial processing, which is especially clearly visible in the photographs of the temple. Take a similar photo with some Chinese camera. In most cases, the image will look like something out of a children's coloring book.

The same applies to shots taken with wide-angle cameras. The colors are identical everywhere, even check with a pipette.

In other words, Apple is great again. The company didn’t give a damn about those who say that “Chinese” pictures turn out brighter. Yes, bright, but not real. If I want to make my photos artificially bright, I will use filters. And the rest of the time you need the camera to take honest photos. The iPhone 11 Pro handles this.

Another good example of the camera being honest. In this shot, the sun's rays illuminated the temple, it became brighter. This is how the camera captured him. The example clearly shows that the iPhone does not take “dull” pictures. He films reality.

What happens to a photo when the lighting gets worse? The camera does its job perfectly. Here are some illustrative examples. In the photo above, notice the detail throughout the frame. From the front it is clear - everything is fine. But look at the background, in particular, at the domes - the actual subject of photography. They are wonderfully detailed, even upon closer inspection. The building on the right, which has no use in the frame, also came out great. But this is just for show.

And one more example. In this picture I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there are still defects along the edges of the picture in low light. Still, Apple is not doing magic; it is far from absolute ideal.

Photo on iPhone 11 Pro. Morning shooting

The camera impressed me so much that I wanted to test it thoroughly early in the morning. And it was not in vain. The photos turned out fresh, just like that morning.

6:45 am, Moscow City. Photos with Deep Fusion mode enabled, which appeared in . Rich colors, excellent detail throughout the entire frame, and the absence of even barely visible noise reduction. Cool shots from the first release of the shutter. And it doesn’t matter that there is not enough lighting.

Similar shots from the same place.

I advise you to open the source and study any of the images in detail. You can clearly see that there are really no serious defects in the frame. And this is provided that the lighting leaves much to be desired.

But let's not be fanatical. No light - no show. This photo was taken at 6:30 am. The trees blocked the rising sun, causing the detail to drop. And lo and behold! The noise reduction work is visible at the edges of the frame. Bring the latest Huawei here, I'm changing to an iPhone! Just a joke, of course. Obviously, without normal lighting, you won’t get “tasty” shots.

« Or will they work out?“, I asked myself when I went out to shoot the next day at six in the morning. These photos were taken at 6:15, in Deep Fusion mode.

I can find fault here, but I won’t. The pictures turned out great and nice to look at. And even though the work of the noise reduction is clearly visible on the left side of the frame, these are all trifles. You can shoot on the iPhone 11 Pro early in the morning. It will turn out cool.

And if it's short?! The pictures taken during the day, in the evening and even in the early morning are beautiful! You can shoot at super-wide angles, but just as importantly, regular photos have gotten better.

Night shooting mode. The moment when you realize that you didn’t spend 100 thousand on a smartphone in vain

If for some reason you are reading this review while standing, have a seat. The iPhone 11 Pro's new Night Mode may make your head spin. I'm serious.

Night mode is a key innovation in the iPhone 11 Pro camera. It fundamentally changes the understanding of what can be photographed with an iPhone and what cannot. The example above describes night mode best.

This photo was taken at night. When I looked at the picture in front of me, I was sure that it would turn out to be a terrible photo. These are usually removed immediately. This is a long-standing habit that has remained from all old smartphones. You think: “ It’s dark in front of me, I won’t get a good photo».

But the iPhone 11 Pro and its Night Mode changes everything. Now I can point my smartphone camera at a barely lit object in the middle of the night and get a mini-masterpiece. It is this understanding that is changing. Because suddenly you realize that you can take a photo in conditions in which you had never even thought about taking a photo before.

Okay, more examples. Yes, there are defects here, that's understandable. But I like this shot. And especially the way the iPhone captured the stars. How are they on topic here! The perfect addition to the frame.

I will still criticize this example. The foreground is completely dark, nothing is visible. The photo is not about him, but you always want more.

What's most impressive is that Night mode can be used for wide shots. By the way, few people talked about this. All Night Mode photos from Apple itself or reviewers captured some objects located near the camera. Even then, I wondered whether the iPhone 11 Pro could take equally cool photos of general plans. Our own practice has proven that it can.

A couple more great examples of night mode working. Again, look at the sky. The stars become visible - this is a very cool feature.

Of course, even night mode needs light. If you shoot in complete darkness, then the night mode will pull something out, but you won’t get a masterpiece.

How is this possible? The wide-angle camera matrix together with the A13 Bionic processor uses a specially designed system. First, the camera takes a whole series of pictures. We don’t notice this, since only a second passes, but the camera manages to take enough photos.

Then the processor is connected. It uses Apple algorithms to combine the resulting images. This process helps eliminate distortion.

Next comes contrast adjustment, color correction and noise removal. Have you noticed that the noise reduction work is almost invisible in night mode images? So this is all thanks to a special algorithm.

And if it's short?! Night mode changes the general understanding of what can and cannot be photographed. If before I didn’t take out my iPhone at all to shoot after eight in the evening, now I can take a great shot even late at night.

Video recording. Traditional quality, but still noisy at night

Note: All videos are available in 4K resolution at 60fps.

Morning video shooting on iPhone 11 Pro

As I wrote earlier, I tested the camera even early in the morning. Lack of lighting does not in any way affect the quality of video recording. Take a look at the sample above. Detailing, color rendition and smooth camera movement are all at an excellent level.

Daytime video shooting on iPhone 11 Pro

A small sample that clearly demonstrates the iPhone 11 Pro’s shooting capabilities during the day in low natural light. The video does not show any defects.

The zoom, first optical and then digital, works perfectly. The camera hardly shakes when zoomed in. It is important to note here that I filmed everything hand-held. It should be better with a tripod.

This is the sample I like the most. It clearly shows how the iPhone 11 Pro's camera captures many small objects spread out across the frame. And all this is in motion.

The sample demonstrates how the iPhone 11 Pro records multiple moving objects in one frame. There are no visible problems.

Night video shooting on iPhone 11 Pro

Night photography on the iPhone 11 Pro has the same problems as previous models. The work of the noise reduction is quite visible. Yes, technology does not yet allow us to completely eliminate defects. But progress is needed. We will wait in iPhone 12.

And two more samples with the same meaning. With artificial lighting at night, normal videos are obtained. But there can be many improvements.

Bottom line. Best smartphone, but the price tag kills all the fun

iPhone 11 Pro is the best smartphone ever released. A proven design with nice tweaks like frosted glass, a powerful processor, unrivaled battery life and an all-around amazing camera. A cool device, for which, alas, you need to pay at least 90 thousand rubles.

And it ruins everything. Yes, if there were “dollars at 30” everything would be different. But let's not live in a fantasy world. For most, the iPhone 11 Pro is too expensive if we talk about buying without installments or credit. This is the main disadvantage of the iPhone 11 Pro. Otherwise the smartphone is great.

The iPhone 11, released in the fall of 2019, will undoubtedly be a hit. Fans even forgave Apple for the “outdated” design, because the smartphone is considered the last in a three-year cycle of updating the appearance of the company’s models. This led to interest in the iPhone 12, the company’s future flagship, which will appear in 2020. It should be noticeably different from its predecessor, laying the foundation for a new design for an iconic product.

It turns out that quite a lot is already known about what this smartphone will be like. You can confidently think about a new design, the appearance of another camera, an updated display, a number of models and many other innovations. In the meantime, there is still time before the release of the iPhone 12, let's try to put together all the information about Apple's new flagship. Perhaps it’s time to start saving money for it, and you’ll also learn how much from this article.

How many new iPhones will there be in 2020?

It seems that Apple will change itself and introduce it right away in 2020 five new smartphones This is exactly what the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks. Regarding Apple devices, he has already made several dozen correct predictions. The analyst suggests that the iPhone SE 2 will be released in the spring of 2020, and in the fall the company will introduce four more models:

  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12 with OLED screen and 5G support;
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 with OLED screen and 5G support;
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro with OLED screen, 5G support and 3D camera;
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max with OLED screen, 5G support and 3D camera.

What will the new iPhone be called in 2020?

After the iPhone 5, as expected, the iPhone 5s appeared, then the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s. There were no surprises planned - complete predetermination. But with the release of the iPhone X, the company changed its traditional approach to product naming. The names began to turn out to be very cumbersome, for example, the company’s latest smartphone was named iPhone 11 Pro Max. In 2015, no one would have believed this!

But Apple, it seems, is not going to change anything. There is no evidence yet that the approach to naming will change. One can only try to guess the name of the 2020 model based on the name of previous devices. Taking into account the analogies of 2019, we can expect the release of models called iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The names, although cumbersome, are already familiar.

According to analysts, the initial and cheapest iPhone 12 model will have a 5.4-inch screen. It should be noted here that for the first time Apple will release a smartphone with a smaller screen (iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch screen). Previously, the diagonal of smartphones was always increasing. The second version of the “budget” iPhone 12 will receive a 6.1-inch display.

In turn, the iPhone 12 Pro will have a 5.4-inch display, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will have a 6.7-inch display.

iPhone 12 design

The main expectations of users relate specifically to the design of devices. There is little doubt that Apple will significantly change the appearance of the new smartphones in 2020. The previous iteration has been going on for 3 years and has clearly exhausted itself.

The main changes will affect the shape of the body. The connecting frame will no longer be round, but will have right angles. This design solution, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, will make the new smartphones similar to the already legendary iPhone 4. The rectangular side edges of the iPhone 12 will resemble the edges of the latest generation iPad Pro tablets. It is worth noting that after the appearance of the iPad Pro in 2018 with a new design, many assumed that similar edges would appear in the iPhone. This information is confirmed by other sources.

New materials will also be used to create the body. The 2020 iPhones will have a metal frame with a more sophisticated design. To do this, you will need to use new casting technology. The frame will combine solid protected glass covering the front and back surfaces of the case.

Analysts suggest that the use of unique production technologies will make the product even more expensive. Ming-Chi Kuo emphasizes that iPhone 4-style rectangular frames and new materials will “significantly” change the product's appearance. This statement seems quite loud, which is very rare for an insider. It's clear that the iPhone redesign will be really powerful.

The front surface of the iPhone 12 will also be refreshed. Another insider, Ben Geskin, claims the long-awaited ridding of the Apple smartphone from the “unibrow” or its reduction. This way the frame around the perimeter of the screen will be the same thickness. Geskin even tried to visualize the iPhone 12 prototype.

Of course, the concept is not based on real drawings or an approved model, but only leaks. Significant changes will also affect the appearance of the entire body. Thanks to changes in design, iPhone 12 will be able to achieve incredible popularity among users.

iPhone 12 display

All new next-generation smartphones will have an OLED display. Apple will finally abandon LCD screens. This information from leading analysts was also confirmed by potential suppliers. Apple has already agreed with LG and BOE on the supply of OLED screens for its future smartphones. New suppliers were needed because the previous one, Samsung, is not able to satisfy Apple’s needs for this type of screen alone.

As we said above, the new models will receive screens with diagonals of 5.4-, 6.1- and 6.7 inches. So far, nothing is known about the characteristics of the displays: resolution and pixel density, brightness, dynamic range.

But now an interesting fact is associated with one of the future models. For the first time in Apple history, a new smartphone with a reduced screen diagonal will appear! We are talking about the 5.4-inch iPhone 12. Such a step will be proof that Apple is taking into account the wishes of its users. Many people have been asking for a compact smartphone for a long time, and yet the size of the diagonals is only growing from year to year. And in 2020 it will apparently reach a record 6.7 inches. Against this background, the 5.4-inch iPhone will look really compact. And in reality it will turn out to be really small.

One of the publications even calculated the likely size of the iPhone 12 with a 5.4-inch screen. This smartphone may have dimensions of 134 mm × 66.4 mm. You can compare this to the dimensions of the 4-inch iPhone SE with its 123.8 x 58.6 mm and see that there is little difference. You don't have to look at the screen. The compact case will house a fairly large 5.4-inch screen with minimal bezels. The screen of such a smartphone will be quite enough to consume any kind of content.

Ice Universe insider shared interesting information. According to his sources, the displays of the new iPhone 12 will operate with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. At the same time, users will also have the opportunity to independently choose the option they need. For normal use, you can set it to 60 Hz and save your battery, but for games you can set it to 120 Hz.

iPhone 12 processor and RAM

The platform based on the Apple A14 processor is designed to provide record performance for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. There is no information about this new chip yet. Some first details could appear in the fall of 2019 with the release of the new iPad Pro with the A13X Bionic processor. Based on its performance, one could predict the capabilities of the A14 chip. But Apple is in no hurry to introduce new iPad Pros.

It is obvious that the iPhone 12 will receive an increased amount of RAM. All 2019 models have 4 GB of RAM, but the iPhone XS / XS Max had the same amount. Most likely, 2020 models will receive 6 GB of RAM; for flagship models this is almost inevitable. And the amount of built-in memory should also increase. Once again, we can recall the preservation of the capacity of the iPhone 11 Pro relative to its predecessor, the iPhone XS.

Apple simply cannot help but follow trends and fall behind its competitors. It is expected that the internal memory of the younger model will be 128 GB. The average model will receive 512 GB, and the top one – 1 TB, like the current Samsung flagships. But so far this information does not even come from insiders, but simply speculation. It’s not a fact that Apple will consider it wise to participate in the gigabyte race - it’s not for nothing that the company is developing and actively implementing cloud technologies.

iPhone 12 cameras

Most likely, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will receive a four-camera system:

  • Wide-angle 12-megapixel;
  • 12-megapixel telephoto camera;
  • 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle;
  • Time of Flight 3D cameras.

Noteworthy is the new 3D camera Time of Flight. Perhaps it will become the main technological innovation of the iPhone 12 Pro. The main feature of such a camera is the ability to determine the distance to objects with the highest accuracy through the use of a low-power infrared laser, not even a laser, but its entire grid. The camera sensor will be able to measure the flight time of the beam, which gives the technology its name. The Time of Flight camera is also called a time-of-flight camera. In fact, the smartphone will receive an additional image in which each pixel is responsible for depth, and not for color.

The presence of a 3D camera will open up a whole range of new possibilities for smartphones. First of all, they will noticeably improve the quality of their photographs, especially those taken in portrait mode. Improved camera depth perception will allow you to clearly separate your subject from the background when creating a depth-of-field photo.

Thanks to the Time of Flight camera, the iPhone 12 Pro will have new capabilities for working with augmented reality. Users will be able to scan real objects and living beings, and then transfer them to augmented reality applications. Rumor has it that Apple will combine these features with the release of its new “smart” glasses, which may appear in 2020.

iPhone 12 battery

Apple traditionally does not disclose the battery capacity of its devices, focusing only on battery life. One can only guess what batteries will be in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Users are hoping for an increase in battery capacity, as happened with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max and allowed them to increase battery life by 4 and 5 hours, respectively. But such a leap in autonomy is no longer worth waiting for. The fact is that the new iPhones will most likely be able to work in fifth-generation networks. This will clearly not have a positive effect on the operating time of the iPhone 12 without recharging.

iPhone 12 connectivity

The new iPhone 12 will be the first Apple smartphones to support the 5G standard. It is no coincidence that for the sake of this event, the company even ended a long-term legal battle with the manufacturer of 5G modems Qualcomm. For the sake of joint cooperation, a legal war that lasted several years was stopped. The companies have already agreed to supply 5G modems for future iPhones. This is confirmed by documents confirming the termination of the litigation. So we can safely say that the iPhone 12 will support 5G networks.

In addition, in the summer of 2019, Apple bought out Intel's modem division. It is obvious that Cupertino is looking into the future and does not want to depend on external suppliers to support 5G networks. But our own modem will not be ready until 2022. Apple does not want to stay away from the revolutionary solution, especially since some Android models received support for 5G networks back in 2019.

Unfortunately, domestic operators have not yet launched a single commercial public fifth-generation network. The introduction of 5G networks in Russia is planned for 2021.

Face ID sensor built into the screen

Back in early 2019, people began to talk about Apple's intention to place a fingerprint scanner on the screens of its smartphones. The company plans to use it not to replace Face ID technology, but to complement it, giving users an alternative.

But the scanner never appeared in the iPhone 11, but the first information has already appeared about Apple’s discussion with touch screen manufacturers about the possibility of installing an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner from Qualcomm. As a result of Apple's collaboration with the GIS screen manufacturer, the fingerprint should appear in at least one iPhone 12 model. Qualcomm already supplies such sensors for Samsung smartphones, but a more advanced version of the technology may appear in the iPhone. However, the final implementation of the ultrasonic sensor may be postponed to 2021. It is no coincidence that Apple plans to switch to OLED displays, because they are the only ones that work with sensors of this kind. The presentation in December 2019 of a touch sensor from Qualcomm measuring 30 by 20 mm, which is 17 times larger than that used in Samsung flagships, gives hope for the implementation of full-screen fingerprint capabilities in the iPhone.

Lightning or USB-C?

According to data provided by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will abandon the Lightning connector in iPhones only in 2021. In other words, the iPhone 12 will still be equipped with the usual Lightning connector.

AirPods wireless headphones included with iPhone 12

According to the latest insider information, Apple plans to include AirPods wireless headphones in the 2020 iPhone lineup. True, the high cost of headphones and their independent success in the market may interfere with such plans. But such a step will clearly shake up the market, and this could be a worthy response from Samsung and Xiaomi, who plan to equip their new flagships with wireless headsets.

Not long ago, Apple patented the glow of its logo using LEDs. It is likely that this solution could appear in the iPhone 12 and be a response to complaints about the lack of notification indicator for calls and messages. The patent even outlines the possibility of customizing the type of glow by using multiple layers of backlight to adjust the color and level of light. Previously, the glowing apple was present in the Macbook, becoming its universally recognized feature. Now it can appear in the iPhone 12, becoming both a decoration and a functional indicator.

High-speed wireless charging in iPhone 12

Wireless charging appeared in the iPhone 8, but since then the company has clearly lost momentum in this direction, losing leadership to competitors. You can at least recall the story of the announced, but never released, AirPower station. It is expected that the iPhone 12 will implement a new generation of Qi, with increased power, and support for reverse charging. This will allow smartphones to recharge not only their fellows, but also AirPods with Apple Watch.

Price of iPhone 12 and iPhone Pro in Russia

The price of the new iPhone interests Apple fans almost more than the capabilities of smartphones. It is highly likely that the iPhone 12 will cost slightly more than previous models. There are several logical explanations for this. iPhone 12 is the first model of a new series of Apple smartphones. It will stand out with its design, and the use of new technologies will clearly affect the cost. And iPhone prices remained unchanged in 2019, which surprised experts a lot. It is likely that the marketing strategy involves increasing prices for 2020, when there will clearly be a surge in interest in the next generation iPhone. Based on this, we can assume that the prices of new models will increase by at least $50.

And here are the estimated prices of the iPhone 12 in Russia, based on previous experience, forecasts and leaks:

  • iPhone 12 - from 63,990 rubles.
  • iPhone 12 Pro - from 93,990 rubles.
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max - from 103,990 rubles.

Updated information on iPhone 12 prices will appear only closer to September 2020.

Release date of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in Russia

The presentation and release of new iPhones will follow the usual scenario for Apple. Apple will present the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro in the first half of September 2020, while sales will begin in the second half of the month. All four smartphone models will appear on shelves at the same time, as happened in 2019 with the iPhone 11 line.

In 2019, Russia was already included in the list of “first wave” countries, having the opportunity to purchase new iPhones on the first day of sales. Hardly anything will change in 2020 - the new iPhone 12 will go on sale in the second half of September.

Hi all! A new iPhone model comes out every year and Apple strictly adheres to this rule. However, “once a year” is too vague a formulation, don’t you think? Therefore, I propose today to find out the exact release date of absolutely all existing iPhone models. To collect, so to speak, all these numbers in one place.

For what? Firstly, it is always interesting to track how much time passes from the moment of presentation to the start of sales in Russia and the world. Secondly, such a cheat sheet can be useful to many (for me, as the author of a blog about Apple, certainly :)). Thirdly, why not? The content, in my opinion, is useful - let it be. Go!

For a clearer understanding, all information is presented in the table. A little explanation:

  • Start date of sales in the world - by “world” we mean the countries of the so-called “first wave” (USA, European countries, etc.)
  • The start date of sales in Russia is the beginning of sales of certified (PCT) iPhones.
  • The iPhone 2G was not “legally” sold in Russia, and the first official iPhone in the Russian Federation was the 3G model (a little more about this).

As we can see, the increase in Apple’s loyalty to our country is very clearly visible. The timing of the appearance of gadgets in Russia, compared to the global start of sales, decreased every year. And by the time the “six” came out, they reached their apogee. The difference was only a week!

For comparison, the official iPhone 3GS appeared in Russia almost 9 months later! At this time the whole world was already waiting for the “four” :)

And my opinion is that everything was heading towards Russia being included this year in the list of those countries where Apple devices appear first. However, this did not happen and we all know why:

  • Dollar instability.
  • Great prices.
  • Low purchasing activity.

Well, let's wait and see and perhaps, specifically for the iPhone 7 model, a row with two identical numbers in the last two columns will be added to the table at the top :)

Updated! Well, with regards to the iPhone 7, miracles certainly didn’t happen, but Russia still got into the “second wave” of sales. In the Russian Federation, a brand new smartphone from Apple will appear only a week later than in the “first wave” countries. And this is very good! After all, the point is that starting with the iPhone 7S, our country should be among those who will receive it first.

Updated 2! Preliminary data (which are known immediately after the presentation) on the release of iPhone 8 and iPhone X have been added to the table. At the moment, opinions differ only about the G8 - will Russia be among the countries of the “first wave”? Or will iPhone 8 sales in the Russian Federation start a week later than throughout the world? Let's wait for more accurate information... We have waited. Still a week late. But Russia was included in the “first wave” of iPhone X sales - this is very cool!

Updated 3! Data about the release date of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR has been added to the table. As for the most advanced iPhone XS, Russia again fell into the “second wave of sales.” The new product will be delivered to the Russian Federation a week later than to the “first wave” countries. It's okay, we'll get through it somehow :) But sales of the iPhone XR in Russia begin at the same time as the rest of the world - October 26, 2018. Normal!

Updated 4! Added release date information for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Well... we can all be congratulated! Now, in order to be among the very first to buy a new iPhone, a Russian apple lover does not necessarily have to go to another country. Official sales of iPhone 11 in the Russian Federation will start simultaneously with the rest of the world. Hurray, comrades! :)

In this material, we will analyze in detail which iPhones and in what cases you can buy at the end of 2019, and which ones are better to avoid.

A short introduction

Somehow it happened that people often come to me asking for advice on which smartphone to buy. It started about 15 years ago, from school, when no one really had the Internet in our provincial town, and I managed to buy all the monthly “gloss” about gadgets that I could find in the stalls of Rospechat. This helped me navigate phones much better than the sellers of the then Chichvarkin Euroset, and my friends, acquaintances and relatives regularly used it.

Years go by, but they don’t ask me less about devices. And you, the readers, have joined the inner circle. And what do you think are the most popular questions each fall? Naturally, they are all associated with iPhones, because after the annual Cupertino celebration, a persistent apple aroma hangs in the air.

Those for whom price is not an issue ask what is good about the new iPhone that would make it worth exchanging last year’s. However, they will buy it anyway, but thanks to me, these people find a moral justification to spend another 100 thousand rubles on a gadget. More economical people ask how much cheaper last year's models have become and which model is now the most profitable to buy. Still others, in general, are quite happy with their current Android device, but when everyone around them is just discussing new iPhones, they also involuntarily think about changing their “religion.”

So, with this text I will try to answer all the questions about buying an iPhone at the end of 2019. To help you make your choice if you are planning such a purchase, and to give a link to everyone who asks on occasion. Go!

Which iPhones are not worth buying or what to do if you have no money, but it itches somewhere?

At the end of 2019, it’s definitely not worth buying all the iPhones that were introduced before the iPhone 7. Neither the iPhone 6S (and Plus), nor the iPhone 6 (and Plus), nor earlier models, nor even the once super popular iPhone SE should be bought now costs.

These devices and, in particular, their hardware are already hopelessly outdated, and you are unlikely to enjoy owning a device that was announced at best 3.5 years ago. In addition, they also have a mechanical Home button, which often begins to crunch after a few months. Oh, I had a hard time with it when I was using the iPhone 5, so since then I’ve tried not to buy devices with such a key.

In addition, the iPhone 6 and earlier models are no longer supported by Apple, that is, they do not receive iOS updates, and for the iPhone 6S and SE, support will most likely end next year. It is curious that the iPhone 6S and SE can easily be found on sale on the shelves of federal retailers, and even at a very interesting price, but you still don’t need to buy it.

However, let me give you one stupid piece of advice. If you really want an iPhone, but don’t have enough money for a more or less current model, then go to AliExpress and buy a refurbished iPhone SE there. , For example.

Moreover, it is the A1723 model, so that there are no problems with LTE in Russia and Europe. The asking price is from 7,500 rubles, depending on the amount of memory, and it’s yours. Such a device will most likely have a non-original (but possibly high-quality) display, a non-original (but new) battery, and a set of fake Chinese accessories. Despite this, many buyers are very satisfied, as you can see by reading reviews of the product. I repeat, the advice is stupid, but it will suit those who are really itching, but only have 7-10 thousand rubles. This option will relieve the itch for six months, and then save up for a current and new iPhone if you work well.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus - still relevant and good

The most inexpensive iPhones that I can recommend with a clear conscience are the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models. The first in official retail today can be bought from 30,000 rubles for a model with 32 GB memory, and the second - for 35,000 rubles with a similar drive.

The seventh generation iPhone has a touch-sensitive Home button, is protected from water and dust using the IP67 protocol, and is powered by the current Apple A10 Fusion chipset. Its relevance is proven by a simple fact - the basic 10.2-inch iPad was released with this processor in 2019, which means Apple will support devices with it for several more years. This means that if you buy an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, you are guaranteed to upgrade to iOS 14 and even possibly iOS 15. Nice.

My wife now has an iPhone 7, and she is quite happy with it. Nothing slows down, doesn’t glitch, all applications and games work as they should on it. The only complaint about the iPhone 7 is the battery, which during normal use requires recharging by 18-19 hours. Therefore, if dimensions are not critical to you and you have an extra 6 thousand rubles, then you should take a closer look at the Plus version. In addition to the larger battery, you get a second main telephoto camera that lets you take cool portraits with background blur. An ordinary “seven” can’t do that.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are great workhorses at a good price. They have a classic design without frills like a cutout in the display, and also a fast fingerprint scanner, which is still faster than the Face ID system in recent generations. In general, everything you need is present here.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus - like the “sevens”, but a little better

Apple discontinued the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus this year, meaning these devices may soon disappear from sale. However, the Cupertino team is still producing the latest classic iPhones (with a rectangular display and Touch ID) - iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. They are not very different from the “sevens”, and it is these differences that we will now dwell on.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have a more modern chipset - Apple A11 Bionic. This will come in handy if you plan to play the latest games with cool graphics or edit videos on your smartphone. These models also have a glass back cover, and this is not only a design element, but also a necessary element for wireless charging, which is present in these devices. As for the camera, the iPhone 8 Plus can not only take portrait photos with blur, but also add studio lighting effects to them. The G8 display also supports True Tone technology, which adjusts the screen temperature to the surrounding environment, which has a beneficial effect on vision. This is where the differences from the 7th generation end.

If you need any of the above, you will have to pay an additional 10,000 rubles compared to “sevens” with similar screen diagonals. By the way, in addition to all this, you will get 2 times more internal memory in the base model - 64 GB versus 32 GB. Reasonable surcharge? You decide for yourself. If I had bought the device for more than one year, I would probably have paid extra for 8.

iPhone X is the most affordable iPhone with an OLED display, but it's almost impossible to find

The legendary “ten” was the first iPhone with a frameless design and an OLED display, but has not been produced for a couple of years. That is why this smartphone is practically impossible to find in official retail, and I wouldn’t buy it on the “gray” market, because there is a high chance that it will end up on some homemade refurbished device. So it’s probably not worth considering buying it anymore. iPhone X - you were cool, but your time has passed.

iPhone XS and XS Max are expensive, even now

Simultaneously with the announcement of the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, Cupertino discontinued last year’s flagships iPhone XS and XS Max so that they would not eat away at sales of new smartphones. But there are still a lot of them on the shelves of retailers, and what’s strange is that their prices haven’t dropped much. iPhone XS is now sold in “white” retail from 80 thousand, and XS Max from 90 thousand rubles.

This is why it seems to me that it doesn’t make much sense to buy an iPhone XS and XS Max at the end of 2019, because by paying an additional 10,000 rubles (only 11-12% of the price of last year’s flagships), you can treat yourself to the newest iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max . They have more powerful hardware, a much better camera (there is a wide camera and a night mode) and, in my opinion, a more interesting design. Yes, 10 thousand rubles is a decent amount, but with such a scale of spending it does not matter much. This is just one branded Folio case, and even now 10 thousand is not enough for that...

The iPhone XR is a bestseller, but there's something better now

This iPhone created a lot of buzz because it became the best-selling smartphone in the world in the first half of 2019. Overall, it’s well deserved: cool design and bright colors, top-of-the-line hardware at the time of release, a decent camera (albeit a single one), a large 6.1-inch display and, most importantly, more modest than the XS and XS Max, price.

The only thing for which this device was constantly criticized and continues to be so is the thick frames and low resolution of the IPS matrix with a pixel density of 326 DPI. However, sales of the iPhone XR have shown that these flaws can easily be forgiven.

Today, the iPhone XR in “white” retail is sold for 50 thousand rubles, and this is the most inexpensive iPhone in the new concept - with a frameless display and Face ID. If new camera capabilities are not particularly important to you, then the device is a good option for the money. However, if you still like to take photographs with a smartphone, then it is better to pay an additional 10 thousand rubles and buy a new iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 is a new hit and it's good

In my opinion, the iPhone 11 is the best choice of all iPhones in 2019. It absorbed all the “hit” essence of the iPhone XR, but in addition it received one of the best cameras on the market and more powerful hardware. It also has a more modest price than the iPhone XR at the time of release - 60 thousand rubles.

The complaints about the iPhone 11 are still the same - thick frames and an IPS display with not the highest resolution. I'm with an iPhone X and I've felt this difference myself. And that's what I can say. At first, I really saw the “looseness” of the picture and paid attention to the frames, but after a couple of days my eyes got used to it. Yes, I still lick my lips when a colleague plays 4K HDR videos on his iPhone 11 Pro Max, and I even envy him a little. But in everyday use, I don’t even think about any shortcomings of the iPhone 11 display. Yes, this is an IPS matrix, but at the same time a very high-quality IPS matrix with high brightness and a rich picture.

The iPhone 11 received everything the same as its older brothers with the Pro console, with the exception of an OLED display, a telephoto camera and an included 18 W fast charging. Is it worth all the 30 thousand rubles that are proposed to be paid extra for the firmware? For myself, I decided that I would do without these chips and save money. And you look at your needs and capabilities. One way or another, the iPhone 11 is an excellent device and a smart choice for those who want a fresh iPhone, but are not ready to pay 90+ thousand rubles for it.

iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are simply the best, but you have to pay for it

The most innovative and powerful iPhones in history are the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. They differ from each other only in screen diagonals and battery capacity. They have the best display on the market (according to DisplayMate), one of the best camera sets (according to numerous publications and bloggers) and a new design with a matte back cover. I won’t talk much about these models, since we recently published examples of photos and videos.

I’ll just say one thing - if you can afford an iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max (not on credit, but just to come and buy it), then definitely buy it. This year, Apple has delivered a flagship without compromise, and I think you will get quite a positive experience even if you have previously used the iPhone XS/XS Max.

conclusions

Time to take stock. And in them I propose to briefly outline which iPhone is worth buying in which case.

  • If you want a current iPhone at the lowest price - iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The asking price is from 30 thousand rubles.
  • If you want an inexpensive iPhone, but have a slightly larger budget - iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. The asking price is from 40 thousand rubles.
  • If you want a modern frameless iPhone, but the camera is not particularly important - iPhone XR. The asking price is from 50 thousand rubles.
  • If you want a new product with a cool camera, but don’t have an extra hundred in your pocket - iPhone 11. The asking price is from 60 thousand rubles.
  • If everything is fine with money and/or the smartphone will be useful professionally - iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max. The asking price is from 90 thousand rubles.
  • iPhone 6, 6S and SE, because they are already very outdated;
  • iPhone X, because there is no point (when there is an iPhone XR/11);
  • iPhone XS and XS Max, because the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro Max are not much more expensive.
